Not sure if BlueSky is good for this kind of thing anymore, but do I know anyone on here who did an MLIS degree or similar at UMD?

Very happy to read today that OCLC realized it was in the wrong and dismissed MM from its lawsuit v. Anna's Archive: www.courtlistener.com/docket/68157...
Dear #library technology community, we need to talk about @OCLC. #libraries #code4lib #c4l24

there is a significant shortage of organs relative to the demand for medically necessary transplants

billionaires have organs they do not need, namely all of them

As the president and his pet billionaire sat in a swasticar on the White House lawn yesterday, I imagined the cozy couple taking to the open road, the greatest American tradition, a modern-day Thelma & Louise.

I would like the president to instead consider a career as a florist, at a shop with high shelves so the flowers can be closer to the sunshine. Then he can push the daisies up there every day.

The next time the president goes to a diner, I'd like him to be seated in the John Wilkes Booth.

who named it the "pine barrens" when "Loréal forest" was right there #newjersey #nj

For those of you who inexplicably believe #Trump is capable of occupying the same reality as human beings, let's fact-check one of his goofiest assertions from the debate on Tuesday: that protestors "took over a big percentage of #Seattle" during the George Floyd protests of 2020.

I do not condone elder abuse but I quite enjoyed the debate

what dingus called it "copy cataloging" when "mutually assured description" was right there? #libraries 📚

next time you're in a gen alpha-themed buffalo wing spot and you need to wipe the saucy mess off your hands, ask for a skibidi towelette, they will understand

If I were working undercover to expose unsavory deeds by the Sandman author, my go-to cocktail party opener would be "I'm mole for Gaiman!"

who all is going to #OR2024 next week?

haven't conferenced in so long (2019) that I forget how any of this works

The OCLC quotation screenshotted in @liadanmakes.bsky.social's quote-post says the quiet part out loud: OCLC does not believe that libraries and archives should be free and widely available.
OCLC should feel ashamed of themselves. And I know they won't, so instead I'll just hope that a better product comes along and they go out of business.

Mike's thread is 100 percent worth reading if you work in library technology.

But if you need a TL/DR: OCLC is trying to set legal precedent that could make you a potential legal target of theirs simply by having used OCLC's APIs or having been associated with the OCLC Developer Network

sometimes it takes you ~50 years of thinking you're a kinda smart, pretty darn straight normie to realize you're a pretty dumb, kinda queer neurodivergent

Reflecting honestly on my visceral reactions to restaurants using QR code menus and professional sports being broadcast on streaming services, I might finally be a boomer.

if the roman catholic church were founded on major league baseball lore, do you think the priests would argue about who among them is the Ueckerest?

tattoo idea: "A spell cast with a Bonus Action is especially swift. You must use a Bonus Action on your turn to cast the spell, provided that you haven't already taken a Bonus Action this turn. You can't cast another spell during the same turn, except for a Cantrip with a casting time of 1 Action."

Part of my neurodivergence is that I legitimately forget that theism is a thing in the real world. When people talk about gods and souls and the afterlife and what not, I feel like we're doing some kind of live-action role-playing.
