Flew down to Westhampton NY to stretch my legs a bit and get some more experience in marginal weather at night. Popped up through a thin cloud layer on the way home. The training worked! Magical.

Got my instrument rating today down in South Carolina! Flew a Diamond DA-40NG, which is a Cadillac of a plane. Flew solo VFR up and back for the checkride; nice to take in the scenery after so much time under the foggles.

Got a call from my MIL this morning that there seemed to be a leak in her roof. After opening it up on the inside and confirming that there was water where it wasn’t supposed to be, I climbed up on the roof to see how it was getting in… 🙀

Flew over to Providence yesterday for fun. Was good practice for flying in the system. Got vectors to final and step down altitudes on flight following. Then on the ground I got to see some of the big metal up close and personal.

Did a little day trip over to Block Island today. Good use of the plane. 45 minutes in the air vs at least 3 hours by car with the ferry.

I really enjoy night flights, even though they’re less safe in a piston single. So quiet, can see forever on a clear night. And everyone’s bored so shenanigans sometimes happen on the radio. When I got home, the airport firefighters were putting out a pretend fire on the ramp.
