Nerd of various flavors, mostly tech (🥱) and plane stuff (😎). Say hello to your dog and/or cat for me.
Here’s a doggo enjoying his first snow! He was mad at it at first. Hackles up and everything.

Watching In the Mouth of Madness with my emotional support kitteh.

Just watched A House Of Dynamite. Pretty surprised at how upsetting it was for me. I think it connected with some deep unresolved emotions from growing up in the 80s, combined with feelings about the current uncertainties. Not particularly confident in how a similar situation would be handled now.

Dog tax, from before the tickpocalypse…

Me: Oh, let’s enjoy this unseasonably warm Fall day with a walk in the woods!
(horde of ticks): Yes, please do!

After pulling 5 off of me, I lost count of how many I pulled out of my dogs’ coats with the fine-toothed brush. Gross!

If you look carefully at the background of my picture, you’ll see that I can confirm!
Yes, it really DOES look like this at the very top of #Maui, in the backcountry wilderness part of our partner #HaleakalāNationalPark.

In non-AI horseshit news, here’s Fergus. Fergus is almost 5mo and just wants to chew on his antler and go on walks. What is so complicated about that?

Jesus H. Christ things are getting weird. Yeah, yeah, it’s a clever LLM… But man, it /feels/ like it’s thinking. This was its response after I asked it to prune its memory to stay in an optimal context window.

I showed my 22yo daughter my vibe-coded personal project, and her response was (no exaggeration), “Somewhere, a newly-graduated CS major just woke up crying for some reason he didn’t understand”.

She’s not wrong. Things are getting fucking weird for programmers. And getting weirder.

Planes roared over D.C. on Saturday, tanks rolled along the National Mall, brass bands resounded and thousands of soldiers marched past cheering crowds, as the Army put on the largest show of military might in the capital in more than three decades. wapo.st/4dYFOck

Just something that occurred to me while cleaning the air fryer basket. Makes a beautiful roasted salmon fillet!

Epic by Faith No More is not 36 years old. There’s some kind of bug in the calculator, right? WTF

Flew down to Westhampton NY to stretch my legs a bit and get some more experience in marginal weather at night. Popped up through a thin cloud layer on the way home. The training worked! Magical.

My dog hates the Super Bowl because it’s the one time per year that I channel my Dad and yell at the TV. I grew up in a Steelers house but I’ll root for the iggles this year…

Watching ST:Voyager for the first time. I was busy when it first aired in 1995. That was like, 10 ago, right? Right?

Got my instrument rating today down in South Carolina! Flew a Diamond DA-40NG, which is a Cadillac of a plane. Flew solo VFR up and back for the checkride; nice to take in the scenery after so much time under the foggles.

Spending a week in Charleston, SC to fly my face off and get an instrument rating. Great town. Food’s amazing. Funny how easily I fall back into a drawl even after living in New England for over 25 years.
