Bird conservation is only going to work if these species have healthy habitats to live in. Can citizen scientists help gather vital information on habitat condition? Doing moth trapping in the UK this weekend?
Can you help us gather lots of images of moths on egg cartons from your trap?
Help us develop a tool making moth recording easier for more people
Tks! #mothsmateer #teammoth

Do you do moth trapping in the UK? We'd love your help! 💡

At @ukceh.bsky.social we're training & testing AI to detect multiple moths in a single image.

Send us top-down photos of multiple moths on egg trays to support this work.

Great talk by @drnickisaac.bsky.social from UKCEH at #bes2024 about the development of the species abundance indicator for Defra. Honest perspective on the positive ambition and challenge of doing this week. @britishecolsoc.bsky.social

I really enjoyed the talk by Dr Chris Wernham, of BTO Scotland, summing up why monitoring birds is important for science, but also for ourselves.
This is the type of message we want to get across through our CIC - to get out into nature and also contribute to #CitizenScience. @btobirds.bsky.social

Tuyvae douglasboyesi - a newly described moth from Colombia. dx.doi.org/10.57800/fau...: "dedicated to a young and enthusiast British entomologist, Douglas Boyes, who left us too early"
Sadly missed by us all - he did amazing research, had such passion... I wonder what he would have gone on to? 😞

Ha ha! You're right - the fact that his superb undergrad thesis was on obscure little brown jobs reared from bird's nests demonstrates that so well.
What an honour for someone so missed 💚

What a wonderful honour. The moth is rather duller in plumage than Doug himself - but it would be very hard for any moth to compete with Doug's shirts! 🤩
