The 3rd edition of Health Inequality has kept aspects of the older two editions that @zetkin.bsky.social originally wrote & so many found to be an accessible way into understanding the complexities of health inequalities, but there are new bits too

Here's a wee thread to explain what we've done 😉

My experience in discussing this topic is that there is very little interest among people about this long term catastrophe - perhaps they can’t relate to it somehow?

SCOOP: The NIH is moving to prohibit funded scientists, inside and outside the agency, from collecting data about gender, according to a draft policy I obtained. It’s part of the NIH’s aggressive crackdown on gender-identity research. www.chronicle.com/article/gend...
Gender Data Would Be Off-Limits Under Proposed NIH Policy
A draft rule would bar scientists funded by the agency from collecting data about gender identity, following other steps the administration has taken to restrict research on LGBT topics.

Hello, I'm a social epidemiologist. I never appear in films. But the things I work on are often mentioned in films or TV, and attributed to genetics

@jowolff.bsky.social was that you mentioned on TRIP question time?

But I hate being put into this impossible position, those who call for USA researchers to join us here don’t put money where their mouth is. Intellectual dishonesty all around

We’d bend over backwards 😊

I’m being trolled once again by the institutions of French research:

-on one hand I’m in the dark about my budgets & can’t spend them, have no office space, have to fix our broken doors, sinks, windows…

-on the other I am to gratefully accommodate USA researchers & figure out how to pay them

🤷‍♀️

Another painting to share. "Donegal Cloud" was a very small painting of a very big sky, and it came from a time when I had a dog and she and I would sit underneath it in silence. #SpeirGorm #ArtAdventCalendar
Landscape format is loosely painted acrylics. Horizon is one third way up from the bottom, with all of the foreground being bog in dark maroons and oranges. Past it is a strip of low green hills and along the horizon is a lilac mountain mass with a pale blue mass further away to its right. Top half is sunset sky of one large billowing green-grey cloud with white edges surrounded by pinks, oranges, lilacs, sky blues, and white near the mountains at the horizon. Signed bottom left in light blue: Liam Daly

New study alert, just out in SER! 🚨

What really drives gendered occupational choices among adolescents?

➡️It might not be workplace characteristics (e.g., salary), but skill requirements.

‘Course it does 😉
Well done, and well said

I’ve often thought, as an apprenticeship, the PhD allows us to really settle into our introvert skills, & thereby become even less adapted to many of the activities expected of us later
