Annual checkup from the retina doctor. She said my left eye (the one with the problem) has improved a little since last year. Wow.

That ate up most of the afternoon, so nothing more to report.

I transcribed a few titles onto bibliography cards.

Fried chicken ordered from Popeye's for dinner. Also biscuits.

Sparkly Astral Plane cocktails, even though it's not Saturday.

Fr. Peter led a prayer of thanksgiving for "heroic service" in honor of Veterans Day.

A presentation after the service by the head of one of our grant recipients, a long-term shelter for women with children.

Still today (Saturday):

On behalf of The Lord Ruthven Assembly (our vampire / revenant group), I submitted a panel proposal for the 2026 International Conference of the Fantastic in the Arts.

More of the Maggiano's lasagna for supper.

Also today:

I ordered a mocha frappe and a scone from Starbucks on DoorDash. Not a thing to do often, given the inflated price of that tiny scone.

Briefly working on bibliography entries and the December newsletter.

Still today:

Not good: Les accidentally left an essential item at home. Somewhat good: I noticed and called him in time to turn around and retrieve it before he got too far on the road.

I ordered lasagna from Maggiano's, enough for more than two meals.

Renewed my ID care protection service even though Les renewed his already. I decided having it in both of our names was preferable, even though it means paying double.

Les drove to Towson (north of Baltimore) for the Maryland CAP Wing Conference.

Still today:

We visited the lawyer to sign our wills and other estate-planning documents. Glad to have that done.

Mocha frappe from McDonald's, even though it's not Les's regular McDonald's night.

Also today:

We used less electricity this week than last.

Les couldn't find the accessories for his Navy medals (to wear on his uniform this weekend), so he went shopping at the Exchange and, luckily, got everything he needed.

Also today:

I had coffee hour duty and didn't mess it up. A few pieces of cake were left over, so I brought them home.

Sent an electronic get-well card. That's a pretty cool website, flat for for unlimited cards.

Cheesy scrambled eggs with bacon for dinner. Les made biscuits from scratch.

Also today:

Les made gumbo for dinner, one of my favorite things. We included shrimp instead of sausage.

Sitting around the firepit after dinner. Cool but not cold.

An "extra" hour of sleep tonight. Yay!

Dinner ordered from SHIKA Sushi & Ramen to be home for trick-or-treating.

Suitable weather for Halloween, not raining or too cold (although it is windy). It's after 7 p.m. now, yet almost no visitors, even though it's a Friday. Strange. Clearly no risk of running out of candy.😄
