And to close the night, I talked with a few neighbors, went inside to warm up some mac n cheese I made last night and cuddled with my pup in our cozy little living room listening to classical music.

See, if the feelings volume button would just cooperate with me, every ache would be so tolerable..

And I love my home. I’ve made it my safe space, my belonging. My retreat when the real world feels too loud. I don’t have TV, I have music. I don’t have chaos, I have plants… plants I’ve grown from seed. I don’t have junk food, I have nourishing ingredients and stuff I’ve canned.

But there’s something about going from connection, warmth, voices, to a quiet. It’s nice… but it’s different. I’m thankful for not coming home to yelling or coldness anymore… but it’s definitely still a stark contrast. I’m still learning how to deal with that.

It’s a beautiful ache. The way the street lights cut through the fog, the music, but it’s that feeling of “something’s missing.”

Like when I go inside, I’ll be met by my beautiful pup. She’ll be happy to see me, and I, her. But it’s going to be quiet. I left piano music on for her..
