No it was a broader conversation about speed cameras as well.

Redesigning roads with traffic-calming features is more equitable & effective long term than sticking cameras onto stroads in poor neighborhoods. It also has the side benefit of protecting pedestrians and cyclists.

I never said you shouldn't lose your license when you "grossly violate the terms" (btw i can think of lots of other licenses that are routinely abused!). I'm just agreeing with Balko that reliance on a system of fines/suspension leads to incarceration of ppl who can't afford the fines.

look i get that it's very easy to make this argument but I'm telling you that in many communities there simply is no bus service or Lyft. Also fwiw the majority of license suspensions are for unpaid fines (sometimes non traffic related) and not DUI.

I have a family member who was killed by a reckless driver and I deeply understand the need for real progress in traffic enforcement. But I think it's simplistic to say "The ACLU is against speed cameras"-- we are against unregulated private entities using ALPRs to feed data to Palantir!

As a CJ litigator with the national office this is something that I think about a lot! We are absolutely committed to listening to the communities where we work before we step in and take action. But I agree there are lots of nuances here and speaking for "the community" is a complex task.

Yeah no oyster card necessary at this point; we just assigned a different tap to pay credit card to each person.

I got confused because so many people who had been there five+ years ago were talking about oyster cards and the tfl site is confusing about fares but we just assigned a different credit card to each person and tap-to-pay was easy. No oyster cards necessary!!

Every time I’m there I’m just hit with how singular a place it is, nowhere else like it on earth.
