Our brilliant PGRs are at it again! After last year's inaugural and highly-successful brat symposium (organised by CMS PGRs Shauna Roach, Sarah Collinson, Harry Lewis, and Isla Dawson), this year's committee is once again inviting Bristol PGRs to consider how 'brat' connects with their own research.

Today a kid translated a sentence like “Polyphemus loved his sheep, cheese, and nymphs named Galatea.” This may be my favorite singular accidentally made plural mistake. Like…Mambo No. 5 but instead of different nymphs it’s just Galatea lol

My seniors applying to college brought up the embarrassing UChicago graduate admission freeze independently. That’s how you know you’ve truly lost the plot as an institution

I got stressed about the school year starting for a second, but then I found an old Google chat log from an online COVID class and it was so wholesome. My COVID 7th graders are going to be Seniors this year :))

Overheard at work:

Student 1: Of course Socrates isn’t real, do you think anyone would talk to Plato?

Student 2: Low-key, I feel that way about Saint Augustine. He HAD to be close with God because he was like, a weird homeschool kid.

I am extremely, extremely proud of my students this year. I think maybe a big takeaway from Latin is: it’s worth trying hard things. I hope that students realize how cool the ancient world is, even if you feel the ablative is praying on your downfall.

It’s AP Latin day and I’m posting through it

My mom passed away on Valentine’s Day. And that was emotionally wrenching and everyday is a winding road.

But my first day back was today and I came back to a whole bunch of Latin valentines from my silly students

I made a map of Gaul that was a little less cluttered and did a recap of books 1-4 of De Bello Gallico in 20 min yesterday and my 7th bell *clapped*

Of all the things to receive applause for, I did not predict it would be a recap of DBG.

AI came up in AP this week and I gave them the five minute version of why I don’t like it. 5 minutes of me describing the environmental impact of AI was what swayed my 10th graders away from AI use. It’s worth getting ‘sidetracked’ in class

I’m curious to see who from TikTok will end up here on BlueSky and who will end up on Neptune(?). How will content transfer to other platforms? Will courtroom transcript girl come over here? What about rhythmic chopping tiny kitchen cooking channel? No one will know Emily Mariko pumpkin pie
