Cut irrelevant data and avoid over-interpretation.

This is a helpful guide for students new to the publishing game. A step-by-step guide to getting your manuscript across the finish line, from start to finish.

I appreciate how it doesn't assume hidden curriculum and is informed by the author's experience with English not being his first language.

Practical tools:
✦ Write as if to a smart colleague outside your field.
✦ Reverse outline your draft—if paragraph points don’t flow, fix them.
✦ Focus on your core message, not on sounding fancy.

Too many early-career researchers think they must sound “academic”
Result: jargon, passive voice, long sentences.
Science is already hard—don’t make your reader fight your writing.

Clarity ≠ dumbing down.
It means being generous to your reader: plain, well-structured writing gives your work the best chance to be understood, appreciated, and cited.
