Romman’s statement is great! I agree it’s better than Zohan’s.

Returning to Zohan’s post & angry replies to it… I mean, even Hamas felt obliged at one point (~1.5 years ago iirc?) to issue some statement like “mistakes were made” (on Oct 7). Proving they know how to do politics

Statement on the Two Year Anniversary of October 7 and Ongoing Genocide
Statement on the Two Year Anniversary of October 7 and Ongoing Genocide

Rep. Ruwa Romman, Democratic State Representative and candidate for Governor of Georgia issued the following statement on the anniversary of October 7 and ongoing Genocide

For two years, we have witnessed atrocities beyond human comprehension. Two years of horrific violence, mass displacement, and incalculable loss. Two years of having to mourn the deaths of men, women, children, and entire families. Two years of families desperate to be reunited with those taken hostage.

We remain angry, heartbroken, and once again call on our leaders to bring an end to this destruction that’s killed at least 67,000 Palestinians and more than 1,100 Israelis.

Sadly, our leaders continue to fail us. While they trumpet proposals of alleged peace little has changed. Every day this continues, Israel, with our backing and tax dollars, perpetuates more death, destruction, and horror in Gaza. Children are starving. Hostages remain in captivity. Every day that passes isn’t just a policy failure — it furthers one of humanity’s darkest periods in recent memory.

Today, we reiterate our calls to stop sending bombs in violation of our laws. We reaffirm the need for leaders to reach a just solution and a lasting peace agreement for all those living in the region. We echo the demands for the release of Israeli and Palestinian hostages.

May the children born today grow up without genocide, apartheid, and oppressive cycles that perpetuate more violence. May we all have the courage to end decades of violence and bloodshed that’s claimed so many lives. Together, we can bring an end to this nightmare.

Completely agree about the death toll, and it’s also fair to criticize him for not saying Palestine or Palestinians. I haven’t read Ruwa’s statement, I’ll look for it!

I’m very alert for signs of Zohran Mamdani selling out and starting to suck but this ain’t it

I’m very pro Palestine but some of the pro Pal replies to this OK statement are not smart. Like when some pro-Pal guy on X got mad at Linda Sarsour for calling Hamas a “terrorist organization” (instead of a resistance group). When you talk to normals you gotta sometime use the language of normals

My statement on the two year anniversary of October 7, 2023.
“Two years ago today, Hamas carried out a horrific war crime, killing more than 1,100 Israelis and kidnapping 250 more. I mourn these lives and pray for the safe return of every hostage still held and for every family whose lives were torn apart by these atrocities.

In the aftermath of that day, Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government launched a genocidal war: adeath toll that now far exceeds 67,000; with the Israeli military bombing homes, hospitals, and schools into rubble. Every day in Gaza has become a place where grief itself has run out of language. I mourn these lives and pray for the families that have been shattered. Our government has been complicit through it all.

This must end. The occupation and apartheid must end. Peace must be pursued through diplomacy, not war crimes, and our government must act to end these atrocities and hold those responsible to account.

These last two years have demonstrated the very worst of humanity. We must answer it by modeling the very best: a relentless pursuit of our higher ideals and an unwavering commitment to universal human rights.”

This is one of those strange RPG sessions where the players completely ignored the plot I had intended to use and chose to do something different, so I made a new adventure for them 🤪😂 I’m glad I rolled with it!

Always been a big fan of Allan Servoss’s weird illustrations for the 1975 Arkham House edition of Gary Myers’ “The House of the Worm”. Just learned Servoss passed away (1947-2024) after a long career as an art teacher and landscape painter who occasionally drew monsters. RIP.

Possibility 1: the dumplings just won’t be as big because the shoots are useful filler

Possibility 2: the dumplings will suck
mockman.bsky.social
Made har gao (shrimp dumplings) for the first time, left the raw dumplings in the fridge BUT: I realize I forgot to put in the bamboo shoots??! Are they gonna fucking suck? Will find out in 2 hours when I go home and steam them

A second flotilla in less than a week is headed towards Gaza tonight and it has a significant amount of Turkish citizens on it

I've heard of that original version, but thankfully never seen it. I grew up on the '80s version with Oompa-Loompas...

IIRC the Dahl estate was going to roll out censored/revised editions of these books but... did they end up backing off? The edition I'm reading seems to be from 2023 but has the 1980s text as far as I can tell. I don't know if it's the last edition before the change or if they decided "forget it"

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory": This book is still so good. Surely some nostalgia factor in me reading it, but our 5-year-old is loving it. It's also a good introduction to the themes of poverty and taking care of elderly relatives

(I don't mean the manga is about polyamory 😂... but it does have sort of a "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with" thing going on)

It really is interesting for a shojo manga how "Nina the Starry Bride" (at least as of v.14) has a message of "You don't just have one true love! You might be able to fall in love with multiple people!"

I'm sure the heroine will end up with a true love, but even the suggestion of choice is unusual

I love the TVTropes entry for Edgar Allen Poe’s poem “Dream-Land” that lists every creature Poe mentions in such detail you can make a wandering monster table out of it. TVTropes, don’t ever change

Obviously still better than the sound of someone locking their door as you approach the house
mockman.bsky.social
I hate the sound of someone locking the door after you leave their house, so when I have guests, I always like to wait till they’re down the stairs at least
