Absolutely brilliant point, @dremmabeckett.bsky.social ! That deeper dive into why we fear "fatness" is so crucial and often missed. Unpacking that societal baggage could genuinely shift perspectives for folks of all sizes. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
I've seen a whole lot of content lately about people realising they aren't actually fat, that diet culture has just been lying to them. That's great for you all, but please remember what these declarations say to people who are actually fat.

Definitely trying this smart salad strategy, especially during finals week! Quick, easy, and packed with the good stuff I need to stay focused. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Salads can be super healthy, or sneaky junk food in disguise. Creamy dressings, fried toppings & sugary add-ons = calorie bombs. Go for dark greens, grilled protein, fresh veggies, and healthy fats. Build smart, eat fresh! #Salads #nnm www.webmd.com/diet/ss/slid...

Absolutely, Dr. Emma nails it. We're so fixated on what's on our plate, we forget the mental baggage we bring to the table. Less food guilt, more mindful choices. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
We talk about what to eat, but less about how we think about it. The stress, judgement & fear around food choices aren’t just exhausting—they make eating decisions harder. We don't think as clearly. We default to habits & jump to conclusions... That’s probably not helping anyone eat better.

This is so important! Dr. Emma reminds us that labeling things as 'toxic' without considering dosage is harmful. It leads to unnecessary fear and restrictive behaviors.Let's embrace a more balanced approach to food and health #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
Too much of anything can be bad for you—that’s exactly what too much means...yet we constantly slide from "too much of something is a problem" right into "any of that is toxic!"
Many things that are risky in excess are essential or safe in moderation.
Nutrition isn’t black+white - neither is eating.

James Corden's observation regarding the poverty-obesity nexus, while delivered humorously, highlights a critical socioeconomic reality. The disproportionate cost of nutrient-dense foods, like organic produce, significantly impacts dietary choices across all age demographics.

Agreed. Emphasizing health-promoting behaviors, such as joyful movement, positive food relationships, and mental well-being, is essential. Focusing on weight alone is detrimental and perpetuates harmful biases.
stop teaching children that only a thin body is a healthy body.

if we want to teach about health, we can focus on behaviors that promote health: finding joyful movement, having a loving relationship with food, and taking care of our mental health.

keep anti-fat bias out.

Absolutely @dremmabeckett !!Shifting from individual blame to systemic change is key; health is influenced by more than personal choices. Dismantling weight stigma and building inclusive spaces creates true equity by addressing root causes, not just symptoms. All bodies deserve to be valued. #beh353
Let's do better on World Obesity Day.
Instead of changing bodies, let's change the world & create programs that don't focus on shrinking people but support our health regardless of our sizes. Let's create systems, structures, medicines, etc. that don't discriminate, disadvantage & harm fat people.

The FAD diet I looked into was the "juice cleanse." It's all about fruit/veg juices for a set time, marketed for detox and weight loss. Long-term, this diet seems unsustainable, and could mess with blood sugar and muscle mass. Plus, "detox" claims lack solid science. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Well said Dr. Beckett . Food noise is deeply personal, and dismissing it as a lack of willpower overlooks the real challenges people face. More awareness and empathy can go a long way in supporting those who experience it. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
Just like we all experience inner monologues differently we all experience food noise differently, some people won’t even have it. This makes it hard for people to respect and understand the experience of people who do have it, it’s mistaken for lack of willpower.

Lately, I’ve been loving masala dosa with coconut chutney. To make it more nutrient-dense, I’d swap regular dosa batter for a mix of millets and lentils, add spinach to the filling, and pair it with a protein-rich peanut chutney. Small tweaks, big benefits! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Did a 24-hour food recall, and it was trickier than I expected! Remembering every detail like condiments and portion sizes wasn’t easy. I think I got most of it right, but I might’ve missed small things. Seeing it all written down, I realized my meals are pretty structured. @beh353.bsky.social

We discussed macros/micros this week. Knowing their role is empowering, unlike fear-mongering about "chemicals." True advocacy, as Dr. Beckett says, gives knowledge, not anxiety, for informed food choices. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
🚨 It’s easy to grab attention by making food sound scary—whether it’s chemicals, processing, modern farming methods, sugars or whatever else. But fear-mongering isn’t advocacy.

Advocacy empowers with knowledge, skills and options, not anxiety. It acknowledges nuance & contexts.

A fun fact I learned this week about fiber is that one of its major benefits is that it acts like a sponge, catching extra cholesterol in your digestive tract so your body doesn't absorb it. This helps lower your risk of heart disease! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
