Sure Start was a huge success in the years it ran, raising so many children out of poverty and giving families support when they most needed it. I hope the government listens to these recommendations, whatever the cost, and helps a new generation benefit

UK child poverty taskforce set to recommend return of Sure Start scheme
Despite praise for Sure Start from some in the Labour party, there are also concerns that resuming the service would be difficult and costly

In Parliament this week, I called for the planned cuts to disability benefits to be scrapped.

We should not be balancing the books on the backs of the poorest. Instead, we should be taxing the wealthiest.

If the Government does not drop its plans, I'll be voting against the cuts.

Care work is a migration route that is desperately needed, has helped at least stem the sector's recruitment crisis, has a knock-on effect on A&E/ambulance wait times, and isn't particularly unpopular voters.

yeah let's hammer it

For anyone who visits care homes regularly, you will know how much of a disaster this is

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper says Labour will restrict the number of care workers from abroad. Going forward employers should recruit locally.

One thing we learned from Brexit: Brits will not fill all those jobs that immigrants currently do.

No trade deal can ever make up for losing our place in the EU single market - which is much more than a trade deal, it is a border free market of almost half a billion people, on our doorstep.

Trump Turmoil.

After announcing tariff exemptions for smartphones and computers Trump has changed his mind. New tariffs are coming.

No business can plan. No challenge from US Congress as the self-appointed King makes laws. The cult followers love it. Oblivious to economic and political damage.
Tariffs on imported semiconductor chips coming soon, Trump says
The president’s pledge means the exclusion of smartphones and computers from his reciprocal tariffs on China is likely to be short-lived.
