“The Death and Life of Superman” by Roger Stern adapts many 1990’s DC comics storylines. Attempting to capture decades of Superman history in one novel, this confusing and sometimes offensive book can’t be saved by Roger’s punchy action writing. 2.5/5, would rec to desperate Superman fans. 💙📚

“Batman Begins” is a novelization of the first movie made by Christopher Nolan. This book is surprisingly well written, but it isn’t that surprising, once you learn it’s written by comic legend Denny O’Neil. 4.25/5, this book is a wonderful, action-packed addition to the Batman Nolan movie.

“Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens is about wealth and character. Following the raise in class of the orphaned Pip, Dickens writes a fun and somewhat rambling tale about what makes someone good. 3.75/5, a wonderful and light 19th century novel

Fun but a sloggish read! 💙📚

“Celtic Mythology…” is a simple starter book on its subject. If you are at all interested in Celtic mythology, I say give this book a whirl. Probably not worth reading the whole thing, but it won’t hurt you. 2.75/5, a good if somewhat boring introduction to Celtic mythos. 💙📚

“The Remains of the Day” by Kazuo Ishiguro is an examination of dignity. Scouring his life for purpose, Ishiguro’s Mr. Stevens is painfully alive. Less a novel and more a character study, this book is well written but kinda boring. 3.5/5, read if you can just appreciate the writing. 📚💙 #booksky

“Hyunam-Dong Bookshop” is a low-stakes story about books and humanity. Tying writing to our very soul, Hwang Bo-Reum creates an emotional story with evocative characters. Heartwarming and inspirational, this book is a solid entry into early 2025. 4.5/5, would rec to anyone who likes novels. 💙📚

(Audiobook ver.)

“The Weird Middle Ages” by Charles River Editors is a collection of accounts during the medieval period. Very short, the book gives some interesting tidbits and promptly ends. Mostly hearsay, this is just fun anecdotes for the medieval minded. 2.5/5, easy read for an afternoon. 💙📚

“Dinosaurs At The Dinner Party…” is a historical account of Victorian society’s reaction to the discovery of dinosaurs. Unfocused, repetitive, and poorly researched, I was very disappointed in Edward Dolnick’s work. 1.5/5, would only recommend if you are super interested in the subject. 💙📚
January 11, 2025 at 7:24 PM
“1177 BC…” by Eric Cline is an academic coverage of the end of the “Bronze Age”. Eric’s work is a compelling coverage of these societies alongside their ultimate downfall. As an audiobook, it can be overwhelming but is overall informational and enjoyable. 3.5/5, would recommend for history fans! 📚💙

New obsession is Balatro, I don’t even want to admit how many hours I have put into it this week.

The song is burnt into my brain and the smokey room is burnt into my retinas. Seriously good ass game

“The Amazon” by Robin Furneaux is an old academic work on the Amazon. Filled with interesting, but poorly sourced, stories told a bit dryly. Had some neat concepts, but not worth the effort to read. 2/5, certain there are better books out of there for this.

The #Superman trailer was so amazing. Pleeeeease DC let the GOAT return to his throne!

“How to Live Safely…” by Charles Yu is a tongue-in-cheek work. The rules of Yu’s world are as much tied to physics as they are emotion. This book is at its best when covering the humanity of the characters. It’s also super confusing. Incredibly confusing. 3.25/5, read if you like WEIRD sci-fi 📚💙

“Batman: The Ultimate Evil” is a book about Batman and…child sex trafficking rings. Watch Batman as he discovers for the first time that child sex crime exists and read his horrible dialogue throughout. An absolutely awful book written for nobody, 1/5. 📚💙

“I Am Legend” is a dark, depressing view on isolation and humanity. Filled with pain, longing, then vengeful rage, this is a short emotional work. It was hard to enjoy, just because it was so depressing. The overall idea is good, but not my fave read. 3/5, worth reading in a day or two.

I had no idea “I Am Legend” is so short! Very different than the movie. Where was Will Smith!? Pretty good, but honestly a little disappointed. More thoughts to come, what did y’all feel about this book? #booksky 📚 💙

Just finished “Cattle Kingdom…” by Christopher Knowlton. Pretty good, gets a lil confusing sometimes. Will write more tomorrow.

Immediately jumped into “I Am Legend” by Richard Matheson. Hooked pretty fast, think I’ll like this one.

Ending the year strong! #booksky #reading 💙📚

“Inspired, “The Water Knife” is at its strongest when it taps into the consciousness that spawned it. Unfortunately, Paolo’s obsession with darkness frequently spills over from realism into tortured edginess, enough that it often affected my enjoyment of the book. 2.75/5”
