Just reviewed "Algospeak: How Social Media Is Transforming the Future of Language" by @etymology.substack.com.web.brid.gy

It's probably my favorite #nonfiction of 2025, it helped me to think less about "attention deficit" and more about "attention harvesting" 📚💙

This week's post is about a short and powerful novella from Dostoevsky. If you've never read anything from him (scared of the sheer size of his books), "Notes from Underground" is the best one. Check the review here: open.substack.com/pub/morebook... #booksky
Book Rx # 5 - Notes from Underground - by Fyodor Dostoevsky
The act of getting lost on a spiral of pessimistic rumination is, often, classified as a disease. But negative self-talk is also, if you look at it from a certain angle, some unique form of art.

“An admiring, thorough, and swift account of a writer’s unabating struggles with ambition, romance, and politics. [Philip Roth: Stung by Life] has some fascinating scoops‚ major interviews and materials to which Zipperstein alone had access.”—Julius Taranto, The Forward

Definetly it's more a "journey" than a mere book! I always try to recommend it to anyone I know, specially because some chapters can be read as standalone novellas.

Read this book recently and the after effects have been pretty intense. Peoples' lives, peoples' lives. Men, women, children. Rich and poor. Pious and reckless. Kind and ugly. Struggling and greedy. It just has everything.

Anxiety, depression, and isolation most of the time come from companies that train you to keep wanting things you don’t even need or like. And the concepts from the book 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗪. 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘅 helped me to realize that. (See the full review): bit.ly/4ovYaFO #Booksky #nonfiction

I wish there were books as creative as this one when I was growing up. 2e gifted to a toddler, but everyone read and loved it. Totally recommend as a Xmas gift. #booksky

My latest read. This is an important book. The two authors are a prominent climate scientist & a medical researcher. The book details who, how & why science is being undermined. When climate & vaccination science are weakened, as they are now, the consequences are terrifying. 1/2 #booksky #NYPL

The passive-aggressive (or just aggresive) way Cory Doctorow dealt with his frustration with Audible made me laugh!

Here I'm trying to make a case in favor of Bibliotherapy with an important caveat: big, complex life questions need good literature (like James Baldwin), not best-seller self-help "easy steps". #nonfiction #booksky #booktok

📚💡💙 291/365 Books -- I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn’t): Telling the Truth about Perfectionism, Inadequacy, and Power by Brene Brown. I did a slow read of this with my therapist. Really helped me understand the reason for perfectionism and gave me actionable steps to combat it.
