JD Vance on the way to invade Portland: We will not rest until we have conquered Couch Street

Rando: um actually it's pronounced Cooch street

JD Vance: oh buddy I know

If I had a nickel for every time I read a book where a feral bisexual disaster bullshits her way through murder college to get revenge for her dead parents I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but

I think this is a huge part of it, I like working from home as a writer because I can have my cozy little writing nook with dim lighting and fairy lights and not the glaring white fluorescent open office setup where I feel like an exposed little field mouse out in the open with hawks circling above

I do not have nearly enough time to plan such a thing but it would be cool to do a medieval themed 40th birthday party because I'm ~middle aged~

listening to a 90s playlist like the walking middle aged stereotype that I am and thinking how "Die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain" is personified by Biggie and P Diddy

There was a famous book of software engineer interview practice questions around 10 years ago where the author refused to make an ebook version available because "unemployed people will just pirate it" which is PROBABLY NOT WRONG but I always felt coming out and saying it was kinda dickish

The Lego Movie 2 is astonishingly self aware about how Chris Pratt got too famous too quickly and it went to his head and turned him evil, but back in 2017 or whenever that movie came out he still had a sense of humor about it, now I'm not so sure he would

If you want physical copies of my books they are available on bookshop dot org currently on sale! Neat!

I always hate it when people are like "you should read more women authors as an alternative to Sanderson/Abercrombie/etc" but the suggestions are always just LeGuin and maybe Butler if we're lucky, like there are living women authors too who would love the royalties!

When the Simpsons started I was a little older than Maggie, but not as old as Lisa. Now I am older than Homer. I wonder if the show will still be going when I am Abe's age.

It must have been tough to be a teenager or 20-something in 1997 and need to remember the difference between The Verve and the Verve Pipe

Old Ricky Martin lyrics are like "Greetings fellow heterosexuals, I sure do love *checks notes* women, they are very attractive and *squints at smudged word* terrifying?"

or when authors accidentally make a magic power way too OP and they either have to go back and neuter it in increasingly contrived ways or else hope the reader doesn't wonder why the word isn't a smoking crater when one in five private citizens is carrying around their very own reusable nuke

The thing is all the "delete social media and go outside!✨" people don't have any actual plans to build new third places or strategies for making friends as an adult so what I hear when they say that isn't "enjoy the real world" it's "I want you to become even more isolated than you are now"

I don't think I've seen Dirty Dancing either. I think it, Footloose, and Flashdance all kind of meld together as one movie in my brain, a movie that I also haven't watched.

Not sure if it counts because I did eventually see it but I was in my 30s by the time I finally watched Jurassic Park

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

I recall enjoying that album in high school, though it was pretty cringe how everyone retroactively decided that one song was about 9/11

I'm from freaking Colorado and walking from the field museum to the hancock building in a perfectly serviceable Colorado-worthy winter coat in December almost broke me

I think the LDS church gave up and let people have caffeinated soda a long time ago, but still no coffee, not sure where they stand on black tea

I'm picturing that episode of south park where Cartman thinks he has psychic powers and gets in a psychic battle with some other psychics that's basically just thinking very angrily at each other

I went to catholic school for one year of high school and IIRC you had to have gone through confirmation to participate in communion, which I wasn't, but sometimes the priests dgaf and let me anyhow, and I remember the wafers but I honestly can't recall what they did for wine
morgankbell.bsky.social
The church my parents took me to as a kid had both, the grape juice ostensibly being for children, but there's all sorts of myriad reasons an adult might also not want to or be able to have wine so it was good there was a choice
