"Hard times are coming, when we will be wanting the voices of writers who can see alternatives to how we live now, see through our fear-stricken society and its obsessive technologies, to other ways of being. And even imagine some real grounds for hope."

make art! if it's the end of the world, you might as well make art! if it's not the end of the world, then the future will be better because people made art right now!

Another great essay from Nicole. This is a major reason why I’ve pivoted from writing YA fantasy to adult fantasy recently.

idk man, I actually enjoy writing. It makes me feel alive and engaged and I feel lucky that I get to spend so much time doing it. Having written is great, but brainstorming and researching and thinking through things is the real point. You couldn't pay me any amount to give that up to a machine.

So just so we're clear, chatGPT provides summaries that look correct not summaries that are correct
A friend of mine in med school was recently horrified to learn that she was the only one in her class staying up late to write her patient notes because literally everyone else was taking ChatGPT to generate them. Terrified for the future of privacy and medical care.
I was in a doctor's office and the doctor looked something up to show me. I was stunned: He read the AI result. I told him I tend to scroll past and avoid the AI result Google shows first as it is not always accurate.

Hi at last, #Booksky. Sooo as someone who’s almost finished drafting her first adult fantasy after spending years in the YA space…where are the adult fantasy people? 😁
