Just thinking about how when I was in L.A. recently the server at the diner I was eating at told me “we put pickles in our tuna salad. Is that OK” and I looked at her and instinctively said “I can’t believe you have to ask that.”

I glanced at the bust of Freud on my shrink’s desk right after I told her that waiting to see if the NYT will review my novel reminds me of the strained relationship I have with my parents. It was at that moment that I unlocked a new level of insufferable New Yorker.
