This is maybe the first decent profile of Rod Dreher (there have been many) because it captures what a toxic, insane piece of shit he is. www.theatlantic.com/magazine/202...
Rod Dreher Thinks the Enlightenment Was a Mistake
The influential author derides secularism and the modern world. Conservatives—including the vice president—are joining him on a march back to the Middle Ages.

There's a reasonable argument to make for Platner: that he's got a better chance against Collins, and getting a Democrat in the seat supersedes concerns about his tattoo. That's the argument I'd make, were I so inclined. But this is something else.
incredible how white men are given the benefit of the doubt when anything coming from marginalized groups are treated with utmost suspicion and distorted beyond recognition

we've reached the portion of the hearing where Republicans (specifically Bernie Moreno) are making baseless insinuations that Keith Ellison is antisemitic and demanding he denounce Louis Farrakhan

Ninth episode dropped. Incredibly, the case gets even weaker. Rick Jackson was a damn homicide detective with the LAPD. This is mindnumbingly stupid.

Yep. This was true of the assault allegations leveled at Trump. The first was huge. The second, even bigger. By the seventh, it was white noise.

This is how I feel about AI in the nonfiction/true crime space. If you're vulnerable to being replaced by a computer program, that's only because you're writing lazy, half-assed crap in the first place.
If you think your job is making money off slop for the unwashed masses then yeah you should panic, but that sure doesn’t mean that art is dead because a computer can produce a reasonable quality facsimile of what you do.

Same, but there's little distinguishing her actions from others who made irrational short-term decisions after Kirk was shot. So I'm sympathetic, but it was her job to see beyond the news cycle.
