True.

I have run a few games where good-aligned or neutral PCs were followers of evil deities.

These Deities had to be kind to certain people for it to work. Their church had to do some good in the world, and some tenets were always just vague enough to sound reasonable in PC's interpretation.

Or forced enslavement if going mask off is an option. Prayer under the fear of death and pain should be just as powerful, if the poor soul that is praying truly believes their pleading may save it from a terrible fate.

To discuss this, we first need to define what Evil means within the specific setting.
If we are talking about the "Eatbabies, God of Murder" type of Deities - I tend to lean towards having their faith leaders lure in followers with easy solutions to complex problems while omitting consequences.

There is an urban tale, that if a person is in a bad mood they may notice a strange figure in a crowd. Despite it having no facial features, they will still feel it is smiling. If it happens, the next time they fall asleep will be the last.
"So never stop smiling, or someone will do it for you"

True. I always felt that unless the specifics are to be an integral part of the game, you shouldn't step too far from real life. It has to be suitable for the world, but also easy to understand and adjust to for the players.

Two berserker class players in a row took up cooking as their main leisure mastery in my campaigns.
I had to prepare information about what monsters can be eaten, think of regional dishes that would impress nobles, how to create snacks for the road... And answer a lot of cannibalism questions.

I usually describe the local cuisine depending on what serves as the main source of food in the region and give some irl references, but won't go into details.
If players start requesting specific meals or somebody has cooking as one of their masteries, I make sure to have more information prepared.

It is supposed to be :) Add a cacophony of voices wispering their regrets and calls for help, while one can't see farther than a few meters in front of them - and you have a nightmarish experience for the whole group to remember

Also, reverse rain! In the lands of fey rare low-altitude clouds attract water from the ground. Sometimes it even leads to fish and other underwater creatures being sucked in into the cloud, where it then continues to live, swimming in this magical cloud ecosystem. This one is more light hearted

There are a few I have used for the lands ruled by undead. For example ethereal fog, suffocatingly warm with sticky texture. Voices of the dead call from its veil to the few living creatures unfortunate enough to have no shelter. This is more of a magical phenomenon mixed with weather, but still
