there are three kinds of retcon in my mind
1. normal retcon: the klingons look different bc gene roddenberry has more money. just roll with it
2. comedic/pomo retcon: "we do not discuss it with outsiders"
3. capeshit retcon: forehead ridges explained in tedious detail w/ dramatic music
