I’ve thought of this story a lot as I’ve been working with neighbors and internet strangers these last few months. I think having fiction like this in my head helped me know what I can do, and know that it matters.

Yes! Fiction like this trains our brains to think that we don't have to solve the whole problem, just find the closest small one and solve that first and then maybe that person can help you solve the next one.

Writing hopeful post-apocalyptic/dystopian stories about how communities come together when things are bleak is somewhat of a niche of a niche, so it delights me when I find one!

The perfect story for this moment. If you haven't read, I highly suggest doing so this morning. 💓
The Year Without Sunshine - Uncanny Magazine
During one of the much smaller disasters that preceded the really big disaster, I met a lot of my neighbors online. I can’t remember if we set up the WhatsApp group because of the pandemic or the civi...

Oh, and as I go to bed, if you're in the twin cities, next week you will be able to find some of my brightly colored whistles at Tropes & Trifles, one of my favorite bookstores I have never been to. BUT WILL, SOME DAY! 💓

Thank you for keeping me up. Whistles in the box, plates cleaned and set back up, Bree going to bed. 😂

I picked Spanish, which was my third language at that point. I could still convincingly speak it. French was my 4th and VERY VERY NOT GOOD unless I needed to talk to someone about playing tennis. LOL

omg this happened to me in Germany once. the trying to pretend I didn't speak English! A guy was trying to pick me up and I pretended I didn't speak German, then he switched to English so I pretended I didn't speak that, I was so afraid he was going to try Spanish. LOL

I think that in the future I'm gonna just go the puree route for anything I want to powder since it's so much easier. I need to decide what I'm gonna do to restart my smoothie apothecary. AM TAKING SUGGESTIONS??? (my base is usually frozen blueberries so I don't need that. anything else?)

this made me laugh because during my Ewan McGregor era I absolutely bought Brassed Off. 🤣

Okay yeah, I just wanted to make sure. I'm not like "oh yay this will be great" but like, at this point, I don't even know how to calculate what will be worse: folks stopping us or folks NOT stopping us.

my therapist and I spend about 10 minutes per session pondering the deep question: what do you do when being anxious and depressed is the only rational response to the world you are trying to survive in.

still haven't quite figured that one out. hahaha. cry.
