We went to a lecture about Welsh folklore and place. At the Q&A, lady suggests "telling your spooky stories in a castle by candlelight. It would be spooky". She was English. Over 1000 years of folk culture boiled down to something whimsical and twee. 1/2

On the moor above Zennor (with the church where the mermaid comes to sing), lies Alastair Crowley's alleged summer residence. Derelict now, but worth the hike for the otherworldly atmosphere. I am superstitious enough to have knocked on the threshold, and leave silver in the hawthorn.
