In my latest “Moritz Seider for Hart Trophy” push, Seider ranks

#1 in Goals Above Replacement
#4 in Net Rating
#5 in Expected Goals Above Replacement

Amongst all skaters. Not just defensemen.

Crown him

I think the one problem I have with the Red Wings trading Ed for Quinn is that Ed-Seider play big shutdown minutes, and they are already elite at it. QuH tends to play a more sheltered role, similar to an Erik Karlsson. That's fine, but then how do you line up our pairs?

Clearly today's loss was because @domluszczyszyn.bsky.social cursed Seider
Defensemen Net Rating (Dom's Version)
1. Cale Makar: +12.9
2. Moritz Seider: +12.8

it is #officially a race

In November, the Red Wings had the worst 5v5 PDO in the league, in December, the Wings have the 2nd best PDO so far.

Not going to be able to watch or even really check in tonight, so hoping the Wings can have a dominant victory tonight. Ideally with Kasper breaking out!

For the Red Wings, I think a hughes trade would have been dependent on giving up Edvinsson. For a possible rental I wouldn't have made that trade. Would you?
December 13, 2025 at 2:47 PM
I feel like the Red Wings couldn't have beaten that package unless they traded Kasper, Edvinsson, MBN, plus a 1st and maybe one more secondary asset. I think that would have been too much for me

The Red Wings needed that JVR goal in the worst way possible

Via @naturalstattrick.com, the 5v5 On-Ice Shooting% for Marco Kasper is 3.47, and for Nate Danielson it's 3.33. I have a feeling that might improve as the season goes on. Especially considering both players produced a lot better in the 2nd halves of their respective seasons the last 2 years.

In November, the Red Wings had the worst PDO at 5v5, the worst shooting %, and the 5th worst save %. Maybe this team isn't great at shooting and or saving pucks, but I have a hard time believing we aren't at least a little better than 6.32% shooting %
December 2, 2025 at 11:18 PM
Fun fact about last night's Red Wings loss, at 5v5, Nate Danielson was on the ice for 13 shot attempts for and 0 against.

I might be in the minority, but I didn't think the Red Wings as a whole played that bad against Tampa. Tampa has a lot of injuries but they have won 14 of the last 17 for a reason. We need to fix the self inflicted mistakes, and our goalies make a few more saves though, that's for sure
November 29, 2025 at 3:03 AM
Me thinks Kasper is going to break out soon. Hopefully this game. He's been really good via both the eye test and analytically.
November 28, 2025 at 6:25 PM
If Quinn Hughes becomes available, I think the Wings gotta do everything they can to get him.
November 27, 2025 at 4:23 AM
Nothing about that game was pretty for the Red Wings. They had moments they looked good but it just seemed like we're a touch to slow, or just out of sync all night.

At 23 years old, Lucas Raymond is currently producing more expected goals above replacement/60 (xGAR/60) and scoring more than both Mitch Marner and Nikita Kucherov did at the same age.

The Red Wings have a superstar and he’s locked up on a ridiculously team-friendly deal

Excellent read! On a positive note, over the last 10 games, via @hockeystatcards.com, ASP is 5th on the team in gamescore, Ed is 6th, and Chiarot is 7th. Seider is 4th, and apparently has more points than Larkin during that span. Small sample size definitely promising

While the Wings are doing a good job of getting shots on net. The quality of chances they are getting seems to be not great.

Kind of glad I'm not watching the Wings tonight. Sounds like a rough game.

I may not be able to watch the game, but I can watch the stats. Ray, Fin, Larks, Cat, Kasper, Ed, Mo, and ASP are at 59% xGf or above! (Also Appleton)

Don't get to watch today or tomorrow's Red Wings games as I'm blacked out 😭

@mbultman.bsky.social Pointed out some discrepancies regarding PDO on the @wingedwheelpodcast.com. I looked deeper and here's what I found. At 5v5, the Red Wings are 30th in the league. But combine all-situations, the Wings jump up to 12th. This jump is driven by the team's shooting %

How exciting would it be if Detroit, Ottawa, Montreal and Buffalo all make the playoffs
Point projections over the past fortnight.

The Red Wings are 7-1 against playoff teams from laster, and 0-2 against non-playoff teams lol
