#OnThisDay in ’91 Ayrton Senna won his home #F1 GP for the first time. Senna judged a dry-wet race brilliantly, nursing a failing gearbox by keeping it in 6th. Having cried out on the car-to-pits radio on the slow-down lap, he was physically & emotionally shattered on the podium.

I’m sad to hear that Ed Hinton has passed away, at the age of 76. A fine sports writer in the grand American tradition, he was very helpful to me at Indy in 2000, when an #F1 GP was first held at the Brickyard. He was a great wordsmith, too (see screen-grab for an example).
