What America is going through is not unusual in historical terms. Plenty of examples like it today elsewhere in the world.
What makes it unusual is the rapid collapse from a set of widely espoused norms and values that centered on liberty. It is the sacking of the shining city on hill that shocks.

don't forget anything in a hotel room has once again proved challenge impossible for me. A new mode of failure is not noticing that the adapter stayed in the wall after I pulled out the charger. Another battle lost but the war between my possessions and hotels is not over yet

I don’t want to harsh anyone’s mellow, but the most common ways authoritarian governments respond when they realize the civilian courts are unwilling to enable them is that they cook up some kind of tribunals to replace the courts, or they just start taking people into the woods and executing them.

marking some intro to quant submissions and wanted to see what chatgpt has to say on one of the most basic questions. Not one for general AI bashing but did not expect a mistake in the most boilerplate Python code imaginable (the issue is the data is continuous, so the mode doesn't work)
