1809-OTD Kentucky surgeon Ephraim McDowell performed the 1st abdominal surgery on a young woman with a 20lb ovarian tumor. The surgery was successful & the patient lived another 22 years thereafter. McDowell is sometimes referred 2 as the father of abdominal surgery.His statue is in the US Capitol⚕️🇺🇸
