If you suddenly received $200, which books would you immediately buy?

Fewer pockets of air and narrower margins within the rigidity of the standardized system. I'm feeling more and more demoralized and constricted. #TeacherSky

I’m excited at the thought of the three of us having a conversation! #TeacherSky

Two of my favorite teachers!

While I think they should have invited me, I am digging this conversation SO MUCH because I just adore both of them.

"But at the same time the stakes feel higher, I feel like the solutions feel smaller."

One of the places @mrneibauer.bsky.social and I arrived in our conversation: we don't think adults are meeting the moment with their "solutions" right now.

I think we have to start teaching information from AI as a type of adaptation. The information you get isn’t first hand: it’s all filtered through an algorithm’s lens, and it’s important to interrogate the algorithm and the lens if you want to learn something.

What are your thoughts #TeacherSky? Anyone have a good recommendation for a collaborative book study?
marcusluther.bsky.social
Wondering aloud this afternoon: what would be a good education text for a collaborative book study later this school year?

Had such an incredible experience last year with @asv.bsky.social's Becoming an Everyday Changemaker—ruminating on what could be this year's version of that journey?

Late to this, but oh man I wish education writing was much more about this: teachers taking a swing, documenting their process, and reflecting on their results.

Imagine what it would be like if that was the norm?

Agreed! When designing a new learning experience, I’m also reminded of how much time it takes, especially when being intentional about how students will move through it.

It’s unfortunate that teachers don’t get adequate time for this type of intentional designing/planning.

This past week was really challenging at times in the classroom—but at the same time, I kept reminding myself to not give into that challenge with my own actions.

Something that helped? Having some "uplift moves" in the tool belt as a teacher.

Here are four of my favorites:

“Everyone—write down what _____ said!”

One of my favorite, super-simple moves to help affirm and celebrate students as a teacher? Stopping class after a great observation and having everyone write it down.

(It's the little things, right?)

What do my teenage kids most hate about having a teacher as a parent?

Me protesting (and sometimes loudly criticizing) their ridiculous busy-work homework assignments. #TeacherSky

It sounds like you and me are having similar starts to the week. These types of days make for a very long week!

I think it says quite a bit about the education system that when test scores go up, it tends to benefit adults more than students.

Way more.

I'm looking for a good novel recommendation to read on the plane this week (5 hours). Any suggestions? #TeacherSky #Booksky #readingcommunity

I’ve been a huge fan of the Socratic Seminar for many years, but have been fearful to fully implement it in my classroom. Not anymore! #TeacherSky #EduSky #SubstackSky

Love it! Anything we can do to lighten the classroom is work well done. #TeacherSky

How can I dream big for my students and design learning experiences, when all of the solutions presented (AI, boxed curriculum, standardization) are small? #TeacherSky #EduSky

Probably my favorite part of our conversation! I wrote down “the solutions feel small” afterwards and have been thinking about it all week. #TeacherSky

"The stakes feel higher for some reason"

When @mrneibauer.bsky.social said this, I felt it fully—and it really was the turning point in our conversation in trying to reflect on and understand the "heaviness" of this school year so far.

(Which then helped us arrive at a really cool point.)

This past weekend, @mrneibauer.bsky.social and I talked about a shared feeling we both have experienced thus far this year:

Heaviness.

Really excited to share this conversation tomorrow AM, especially how we both felt at least a bit lighter by the end!

I’m grateful to you for creating a space for educators to reflect, be curious and vulnerable, and connect with others. Thank you 🙏🏻 @marcusluther.bsky.social !

I wasn’t sure how to start our conversation or where it was going, but the conversational journey was well worth it! I left feeling clearer about what I want to get out of this year, both of myself and with my students. #TeacherSky #EduSky

It’s become a real problem on our campus with little ones almost getting hit by older students. What happened to actually pedaling a bicycle? Why does everyone need to zip around?
