… I did get a few when I began buying my own comics but I have nothing from that period now. My mum burned all my comics in one of her periodic ‘tidy-ups’ so 1970 was Year Zero!

There was a cupboard in my class at primary school stocked with back issues of Fantastic, Wham, Smash, Terrific and TV21, Beezer, Topper… I never once wondered how they got there! They’re all jumbled together in my recollections but I do recall noticing the superhero reprint bits felt different

Because of the way that was made—signatures stitched and bound into a hardcover book—it was drawn directly onto the pages with ink going on top of the pencil lines. No lightbox involved!

All I remembered about it was an uncle fester/plug villain in black coat, holding a bomb - this is much better than I expected! Which rarely (if ever) happens! This might be the start of an expensive habit…

That is SOO GOOD, thank you v much! I love the blue and red ink combo: with the slight registration issues it all vibrates perfectly. Great, funny slightly manic drawings… wonderful.
