That isn't the point. For example, applying for health insurance requires 10 years of detailed history listed on the form, which they already know. The point is rescission if a large claim is made. They only need a small inaccuracy to justify cancelling coverage and to survive most appeals.

I recall similar experiences, and I agree that insects are in decline, but the so called "cab forward design" of modern cars with a swept windshield for improved aerodynamics is more to blame.

To be clear this nonsense "loss" accounting for government completely neglects its tangible benefits purchased, i.e. liberty (Russia) and an educated productive populace. Both are exceedingly cost-effective IMHO. Only stopping civil unrest makes me happier paying taxes.

The US military posted a loss of $2.7 trillion last year. K-12 schools posted a loss of $900B last year.

The USPS is important enough to be enshrined in our constitution.

The elephant (victim) in the room is battery operators who might have been exploiting an arbitrage of price horizons without actually cycling their batteries. This holds for existing, but moreover for planned, grid-scale battery installations.
