“P” made a ball and used it for a game of catch. We tried to pass the ball around as quickly as possible without dropping it. We counted as we went to see if we could beat our score.

We talked about folding paper in half, drawing one side of a shape, and cutting it out so it becomes the full shape. To extend this, pupils painted one side and folded the paper back so the paint printed onto the other side.

‘It’s symmetrical!’ CS

Here is ‘C’ doing just this.

Foodie Fractions

The Hungry Caterpillar ate lots of fruit. Today, we looked at how we could share grapes with many people. The children cut these in various ways to share for a snack.

“We could cut this way or that way. We would still get the same size piece.”

Exploring fractions 😊

How do we share amounts that are not liquids?

“Use your hands or pour it.”

“Make sure you know how much is in a full tub so you can work out halves or quarters.”

Children ordered the porridge by size, then showed their understanding by colouring the bowls on their sheet.
