I would have desk rejected it given the methodology discussed in section two (which I won't repeat lest it reveal too much)

So, the journal I was reviewing for allows you to see the other review, and it seems we were both in agreement over the incomprehensible nature of the paper we were asked to review

I am reviewing a paper that is so badly written that the argument is incomprehensible. Either that or I am having a heart attack

The restored cut plays out the scenes after the big game, and, shows that despite helping win the big game, Hauer's character has to return to exile, thus ending the film on a sad note. Thus the older, more commonly available cut went for a happy ending, whilst the restored cut twists the knife 2/2

One of my favourite Rutger Hauer films is #TheSaluteOfTheJugger. I watched it last night, & saw - for the first time - the cut that doesn't immediately go to credits after the final game. I've always been interested in what happens in the last five minutes of the film, & it does change things 1/2

Well, polsci still had a bad rep today internationally precisely because of this kind of stuff, so…

I mean, wouldn’t we all just like to have our reckons repeated ad nauseam by our fans without having to get colleagues to fact check us first? It would make my life easier…

Maybe. The people I’ve spoken to seem to think he was actually okay academically for at least a while (by current standards) but something went wrong. The other people I’m thinking of also release “research” by op-ed, and they seem to get away with it being what their audience wants to hear…

Now that the Deloitte report, about the government's unlawful administration of mutual obligations, is making international headlines, it's worth looking at what's actually in it (apart from AI slop) and WHY it was actually commissioned

Bray is a historian at Rutgers who received death threats after landing on Turning Points USA's Professor Watchlist. As a result, he announced he was moving to Europe. And then this happened.

This kind of harassment and abuse of scholars is Charlie Kirk's legacy and it's only getting worse.

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

Anyone got a free link to the article about the demise of Bryce Edward’s Integrity Institute?

I’ve spoken to people who have said he was once a real academic, but at some point he decided peer review would only get in the way of his august reckons. Unfortunately he’s not alone in this: there are a few other polsci-oriented “researchers” doing similar back home

Just got sent this from an article by Bryce Edwards. This is completely false, and he never once fact-checked it with me. My campaign was run by me and my small volunteer team. Comments like this reflect a tired mindset that assumes women can’t succeed in politics without a man pulling the strings.

The Anatomy of influence - A Wellington case study
Many of the powerful vested interests behind local politicians are barely acknowledged. For example, how many Wellington voters knew that the current Mayor of Wellington, Tory Whanau, had her successful 2022 campaign essentially run by corporate lobbyist Neale Jones?
Jones co-owns and operates the Capital Government Relations firm with fellow political commentator Ben Thomas. The firm is the epitome of the "revolving door"

- Grim that media barons are buying up mainstream media and making them fascism-enabling propaganda engines

- ULTAGRIM that so many of the big-name journalists escaping that fire are voluntarily leaping directly into a completely separate newsletter website trap set by the same fascists

almost at the two thirds mark, just need 34 more people to pledge $5. In my experience, the closer you get to the goal the more pledges pick up, so if you can space $5 please do (note you won't be charged until November 1st, and then only if the goal is met)
byroncclark.bsky.social
If 66 more people pledge $5 each we'll be two thirds of the way towards the goal
