Middle school English teacher. Always looking to refine the crafts of teaching reading and writing. Aspiring professional writer as well.
We would just be feeding AI databases more writing that they can draw from without author consent? Is there any evidence that databases are collecting things like that from queries?

Also, we all just really appreciated the protective nature of the ghost characters and how it is up for debate whether the main character is actually in danger or not, but her suspicious mindset is definitely justified regardless.

And, even if we use it for the most "low stakes, menial" work, we continue the cycle of expecting that teachers do all kinds of stupid crap in addition to the work of teaching because some are handling it by resorting to AI.

It's so true. If we need to rely on AI to come up with a teaching sequence, then will it really be understood by young humans the way we want?

Interesting. Anyone read any recent nonfiction books on the history of AI? I kind of need a longer view.

There are so many ways in which teachers can be "the helpers" just by doing the good work in classrooms. It's important for us not to overlook that. ❤

There is something great about having students just around some books and notebooks in the midst of all this. They are still willing to just spend time together, poring over a text.

Yay! Looking forward to seeing your writing on this. The problems with AI seem to send teachers in two directions: either strip classroom practices down to minimize cheating or carry on, trusting in the process of getting to know students and their writing.

So much this. We are struggling out here with more student contact time compared to other countries. Give us the ability to be professional and prepared for our jobs.

I am open to actually getting involved to help groups of people who will be negatively affected. I am also aware that I can only do this in a way that does not burn myself out. Even just serving my community, my circle, my students in ways I can counts.

And being like Katniss Everdeen. My thinking about dystopian fiction has changed--especially in regard to how dystopian stories usually show things that already happen to people of color happening to white people. My thinking on rebellion has changed and I know now how important community is.
