This graduate school would not have been possible without the support and the hospitality of the @cirm-math.bsky.social, and without the support of the Institut Henri Poincaré, the @euromathsoc.bsky.social, and the Clay Institute. Thank you all for the support of our activities! (4/4)

And that's a wrap on our #illustratingMath graduate school. Just some time left to quickly grab some merch, note down the last couple of notes on the napkins, grab a bottle of mathematical wine, and the sun sets on Marseille. Thanks to all speakers and participants! (3/4)

The last talk is given by Kate Stange. She tells us about "Math in the visual cortex," presenting a fabulous collection of #illustratingMath examples, quotes, and challenges, from number theory, algebra, and dynamical systems. What a great final talk, thank you, Kate! (2/4)

Looking forward to it!

Looking forward to seeing your #MathArt in the exhibit.

The Show & Ask was great. There was even some #matheMagics repairing a pair of pants (a literal one, not the topological one) 😁

That's @gavagesylvie.bsky.social, of course.

Next to the daily homework, there are a couple of highlights in the afternoon and evening: We took a group picture with all speakers and participants, had a great Show&Ask session, and enjoyed the special bouillabaisse dinner @cirm-math.bsky.social. What a great #illustratingMath day. (3/3)

The fourth invited talk was given by Slvie Benzoni-Gavage. She takes us on her journey of creating an illustration for the complete map on the three-torus, starting from a 19th-century German article to a 21st-century 3D print and a lovely marquetry realization of the map. (2/3)

The afternoon, unlike the last two days, is not devoted to homework. Instead, participants of the school are free to roam the Calanques National Park. A small group dares to climb Mont Puget, while a larger group tackles a trail along the coast.(3/3)

Today's invited talk was given by Chaim Goodman-Strauss. He spoke about a variety of #illustratingMath projects, from simple constructions with paper, via more involved #3dprint approaches to fractals, to large-scale sculptures of steel. (2/3)

Saul did a great job there. He had to prepare a bit before the talk, but that was totally worth it!

The afternoon is dedicated to "homework" from the mini-courses again. People started over lunch to scribble on napkins, the auditorium is full of concentrated faces staring at their respective screens, and we have our own small gallery of #illustratingMath objects! (3/3)

The invited talk this morning is given by Saul Schleimer. He tells us about "Curves on surfaces or: How I learned to stop worrying and love train-tracks." Not only do we get to learn some #topology, but the talk is carried by beautiful, hand-drawn illustrations. Bravo! (2/3)
