what's the stupidest/randomest Simpsons quote that lives in your head rent free? Mine is the urge to say "you said go to bread" every time I am about to head to bed.

It's AI that you can't turn off. It's wasting your own time being forced to talk to support chatbots. It's self serve checkouts and unexpected items in the bagging area. It's inbuilt obsolescence. Fuck off!

Age-verification laws are making it difficult for adult sites to get indexed, since the crawlers can’t always bypass AV.

Which results in lower indexing.

Which results in lower traffic.

Which results in censorship.

A fun thing about doing "age verification" on a region-by-region basis, which is the only way to successfully comply with any given state's AV law, is this: Bots, like the kind Google uses to make your site Googleable, also exist in physical space but, notably, don't have a face and cannot drive.

If this GIF has ever brought you joy in the past, I humbly ask you to consider making a donation to the National MS Society. It would mean a lot to me and to those I know affected by the disease!

What a shock, the ban list keeps expanding. Who could have predicted this?

I fear somebody in the Australian government may have misunderstood the meaning of pull requests
jankabatek.com
The list of social media platforms that Australia is considering to ban (under the new restrictions for Aussie teenagers) includes—yes, you read that right—GitHub.

I have several large documents that I submitted to various inquiries and they didn't even read the submissions to the last one I participated in. The "industry" page shows how much they were keen to ignore us.

I mean, the esafety commission site says the code was developed by "industry" but that didn't include the adult industry at all.

I have many thoughts about age verification in Australia and I could spend half a day writing them in a blog post but I'm to the point that it feels like a complete waste of time. Nobody listens, nobody reads our submissions, the steamroller will just continue until everyone sees its a clusterfuck.

Michigan lawmakers have introduced a bill prohibiting the any "depiction or description" of trans people or trans existence online, including it in a bill banning "pornographic" material

The bill would completely erase trans people online, equating them with porn.
Total porn ban proposed by Michigan lawmakers
Some states have moved to require age verification to ensure only adults are watching porn, but no states have outright banned the viewing of pornographic material.

Watching #chiefofwar I got the giggles at this first mention of Zamboanga.
I'm old on the internet and I still think Zombo.com is one of the greatest sites on the web.

Chief of War - Jason Momoa says: Is it true in Zamboanga you can get anything?
Tony: The infinite is possible in Zamboanga. The unattainable is unknown in Zamboanga.

The problem with every post-Millennial generation is they got to go straight to high speed internet. Of course you'll get computer madness that way. Make them start with those old screeching modems and work their way up

I read this and thought it was such a judgey bullshit article. Mike's thread sums up my thoughts.

On the anniversary of the attack on the Twin Towers, I am posting the cartoon which was my response to the chest-beating nationalistic rhetoric immediately used by George W Bush to stir up support for a military response. The editor at the time would not publish it.

Australians, spread this petition far and wide. Demands Parliament “open anti-trust investigations and penalize the unregulated monopoly of a key part of everyday infrastructure,” as “payment processors are not there to regulate what legal content people consume.”

MASTERCARD from dictating access to Legal Content.

Petition Reason
VISA and MASTERCARD control the payment processor market, in a monopoly, that is not regulated in the least. These companies openly dictate access to services, sales, or operations, of legal items, or legal businesses, based on their own political views. Credit Card Processors should only be there to process legal transactions, and not dictate what someone spends their money on. VISA and MASTERCARD are so big and control a market that can be equated to a utility. There are no alternatives widely available in the market, despite these companies acting as a key part of all payment infrastructure. just like water companies or electricity providers are regulated to prevent them from stopping service based on arbitrary views,
VISA and MASTERCARD should be held to the same standard.

No, in theory I've still got the list via the open source WP plugin, I just can't use their paid service to send emails. But I'll admit I have no idea how to send a newsletter with my native website email without getting nuked as a spammer.
