A9 I had been to Mt Baker (it's my favorite Mt to photograph) years ago & the Nisqually glacier area, but somehow had not been to Artists Point - I was missing so much! (Mt Baker & Artists Point is just outside of North Cascades National Park) #parkchat

A7 We visited New Zealand & found how front & center the Maori culture is integrated into all aspects of life there. In Whakarewarewa village they still live right on top of a geothermal area w geysers, hot baths daily & cook in pools & steam vents. We ate food they cooked in this pool #parkchat

A5 That the reservation system at Mt Rainer is workable but going on the one rainy day during a super dry summer helps. It also keeps the crowds away (& the entrance rangers might let you in early). Also the Sunrise area is beautiful even if the Mt is not out. #parkchat

A4 This sunset was from a wedding at a winery in NW Oregon last August. The temperature during the ceremony was an even 100°. But view & reception (food & dancing) on the hilltop was worth it. #parkchat

Going way back to my first visit here in 1975 - going up on the canyon rim while my friends were below at the ruins, the feeling of all that ancient space & trying to get a sense of the people who lived there has stayed with me ever since. #parkchat

A10 We family camped along the Blue Ridge Pkwy when I was a kid, those Mts& forests are special. But it was a trip out west at 19 - & a chance visit to Chaco Canyon where I fell hard for the SW, parks & public lands that changed everything for me. #parkchat

I remember that often in the SW and out in the Basin & Range country. The amount of space in those huge valleys gets intimidating & so much beautiful sky. #parkchat

A6 Probably an Aug visit to Paradise at Mt Rainier. The lot was so full, then a lighting storm moved in & the rangers had to get everyone off the trails. Huge downpour that turned to hail & then a washout closed the road as people were trying to leave. #parkchat

A4 I'd go back to Escalante for wow factor but I grew up with the Blue Ridge Parkway - designed as a windshield park. Much more to see if you get off the road and into the forests #parkchat

Got to watch a barred owl in our yard today. We occasionally hear them at night, but I've never seen one during the daytime. Crows were screaming at it, but the owl just took a nap.

I would have said dispersed camping in Kiabab National Forest somewhere near the rim of the Grand Canyon, or a view east to Marble Canyon. But fires this summer probably changed that for a while. #parkchat

A11 Getting outside, even if it's gloomy & raining & dark at 4 pm helps. We head up to the Skagit River Delta about an hr north of Seattle where at least it's wide open. Bird viewing is better there in the winter also. #parkchat

Just the way the forest smells after the rains come back. Even thought the foliage is dying back, everything smells more alive with the return of rains #parkchat
