Not sure that 28 U.S.C. 510 is broad enough to cover retroactive appointments. Will have to leave it up to the courts to find out.
Attorney General Pam Bondi says she has retroactively appointed former Trump attorney Lindsey Halligan as a "special attorney" for DOJ and has "ratified" all of her actions to date, including her presentations to the grand juries that indicted Trump's foes.

I'm surprised it's taken them this long to weaponize the IRS against left-leaning orgs and non-profits. It's one of the first things I would have done, if I were such a person who would do that sort of thing.
