last autumn planting bulbs in today from Jacques Amand. Giving Tulip turkestanica a go for the first time. Bulbs were lovely and firm. A few Galanthus and Leucojum too.

whenever I can I go to Istanbul, and the place I stay is beside Çemberlitaş, the absurdly phallic remnant of Constantine's triumphant column, ground zero for Christian legitimation of psychopathic state force. Every night as I come back from the nargile cafe the thing is lit up like .. words fail.

I know.

50 years around UK evangelicals. The 'not real Christians' thing gets rolled out at the slightest whiff of embarrassment about Christian behaviour anywhere.

Then they settle down to watch the next episode of The Archbishop of Canterbury Snogs the King.

thankfully "passive-aggressive Republican bigot" etc. also now mean, to most people Christian or not, "not a real Christian".

Of course over here in the UK, with 500 years of Church / State Establishment under our belts, we have nothing to fear from Christian Nationalism. Maybe.

unfortunately, the US still controls the software and codes for all those F35s it's been aggressively selling. Can't be reverse-engineered.

and in the UK, Palantir is now at the heart of the Ministry of Defence.

so, yes, leverage points of advantage; but if it gets hot, we're in trouble.

so near .. just a little bit further .. the South Esk awaits you.

The Loire surely has an infinitely better wine game. One of the best in all the world. I hope you're at least still getting care packages.

not just a rhetorical question.
is it the sociology of knowledge, social theory's one established 'law': what we know about the world is a function of our social location?
or cognitive dissonance, the difficulty of processing evidence that contradicts our beliefs?

Hanauer predicted years ago that the pitchforks were coming. It's only recently people started to believe him.

Please read this. The UK political & media establishment is asleep at the wheel.

We have made ourselves wholly dependent on a Trump ally for our national security at the exact moment Trump is threatening to invade a NATO ally

I may be missing something here, but wouldn't that require European leaders to develop a spine?
