While we decry the US trying to impose the Witkoff-Kremlin plan on Ukraine, it's worth noting the continuing impact of Obama's appeasement of Putin when he invaded the Crimea.

This from 2023 by Adrian Karatnycky for @foreignpolicy.com
looks particularly prescient ..

UK to World.

This is The MInd being given steadily more leeway to eff up the rest of us.

The Mind controlling the biggest military the world has ever seen, dwarfing the rest of the world's big guns combined. Using that military with growing irresponsibility. While our own leaders watch and learn.
Trump: "They had restrictions on water. It comes down from heaven. You want to wash your hands, or like me, you wash your hair. I lather up. There's no water. I won't mention the 3rd item in the bc I always get criticized. If you don't know what I'm talking about you shouldn't be owning a McDonalds"

If as Labour leader you wanted someone to front up a vicious immigration policy designed solely to appease traditional Labour voters polling as prospective Reform voters ...

you'd choose a daughter of immigrants
Shabana Mahmood: naive, or as amoral as Starmer?
November 18, 2025 at 12:33 AM
surely #Newsnight can challlenge this categorisation of 'illegal' immigration as contrary to the 1951 Refugee Convention.

Why is this inherently racist categorisation going unchallenged.

"People have cars, people have e-bikes. Those are assets they should contribute to the cost of benefits."

Home Office Minister Alex Norris defending Mahmood's proposal to steal immigrants' valuables.

Rightly outraged by people arriving in small boats with their cars and e-bikes.

Mahmood's hateful rhetoric is immoral, but that will count for nothing now that Starmer has remade Labour in his own image.

In terms of practical politics, exactly this. 👇
What Starmer and Mahmood are doing is saying things that will alienate much of the electoral base they rely on to stay afloat while not going far enough to keep right wing voters happy through policies that will fall apart on first contact with reality.

a gulf opens up here between US and UK culture. In the UK comments on this post would be dominated by discussion of Donald Trump in a bikini. So far, 150+ comments in, nobody has gone there.
'Which culture do you prefer: let me know in the comments'
To recap: Jeffrey Epstein offered a NY Times reporter photos taken in Epstein's kitchen of Donald Trump and girls in bikinis *and* implored the NYT reporter to put this information in the public discourse in 2015

What did the NY Times editors know about this offer?

Hundreds of thousands of students have marched for days across Serbia.

A huge protest against Vučić’s government as they commemorate the anniversary of the Novi Sad rail station disaster, a year ago today.
