How wonderful to know you are now a fully fledged botanist, @floodenheim.bsky.social - and thank you for mentioning Hedwigias. I have tentatively labelled pics 2 & 3 as Hedgwigia stellata.

29th January

Another postcard from Nature, gathered on the walk into hospital —
ivy umbel, rose hip, a daisy, winter-scented honeysuckle, hazel catkins — gathered close, then rested in moss.

A hello from the world beyond these walls.
Nature, quietly keeping us company.

I’ve long kept in touch with nature by writing to it — and listening in return.
Postcards from Nature are small acts of noticing: found things rested on paper, a quiet hello from a place and moment in time.
When weeks feel tender, this steadies me. Nature is always replying, if we pay attention.

Forgive us our trespasses…

Sandwiched between the North Circular & housing estates of Ilford lies a rare & precious jewel: the largest tidal reedbeds in London. However, they are in a bad way: smothered in plastic & rubbish swept in by the tide & with invasive species encroaching further every year

And a few more... including on of the whole rock.

Who'd have thought there's be so many different #mosses all growing on the same bit of rock?

It could get addictive, could this...

Inspired by @ryanclarkecology.bsky.social's recent Moss webinar (check out his feed for details) I spent this afternoon looking for mosses. growing on rocks, on Bodmin Moor.

I haven't tried to ID them yet, but just look at all these growing on the same rock!

“Must be Birdwatch weekend.”

“So they just... watch us?”

“No. They, er, count us.”

“Oh. Humans are weird, huh?”

Lovely piece about Hawfinches, here, which I read initially just to find out more about the flared primary flight tips... but then learned SO much more from. #birds #Hawfinches

The chonkiest and most elusive of the UK's finches, the hawfinch is as enigmatic and mysterious as they come.

Gorgeous 'Finches' jigsaw puzzle anyone?

1500 pieces and all our UK finches. 1 piece missing (see photo in listing) but still fabulous to do. I had no idea before I did this puzzle that Hawfinches have weird little flared tips to their primary flight feathers! #birds
