My granddaughter Arrietty’s Nature Journal. She comes once a week for nature studies (home ed). This week we learned about Jays, & their roles in spreading Oak trees. As chance would have it we saw (and heard) one close-up as it flew between the trees at our Allotment! @btobirds.bsky.social #birds

Meanwhile, whilst neonic-related bird declines reverse after the ban, other causes persist.

Blackbird populations, for instance, are decreasing due to the spread of the Usutu virus... a mosquito-borne disease whose emergence and spread are linked to climate change.

A bit late for #wildflowerhour - but here's some Black Horehound and Bristly Oxtongue - both seen flowering in abundance this weekend on the East Sussex coast.

Please correct me if I've got either of them wrong...

Thank you so much for all the suggestions.... especially the ones that pointed out that whatever gadget I use will work better if it's T-shaped. So I'm going to try one of these. Fingers crossed 🤞

Has anyone with arthritis in their fingers tried using something like this? I'm struggling to open/shut my hot water bottle... so looking for something to make it easier.

Already have lots of advice for the arthritis itself, just need an easier-to-open hot water bottle, or a gadget to help!

My granddaughter, Arrietty (aged 10, and home schooled) has started coming to me this term for Nature Studies.

This Small Copper butterfly is from her nature journal.

Next week we’re studying Jays, and the role they play in the growth of Oak forests, so watch this space…

Please can anyone tell me what this is? Could it be an aquatic flatworm? I don’t think it’s a leech, but I really haven’t got a clue! Found on the underside of a leaf floating in our garden pond in Cornwall…
