Next phase of Greenwich development to see a big jump in height under a newly submitted plan.

It's beside some dismal streets for pedestrians. Will Greenwich finally improve them using revenue from development?

This is, Nick, how long-established international copyright laws work, I’m afraid.

A massive chuck of public land in Woolwich is to be sold off soon.

I fully expect it'll be sold off cheap to a private developer, who will then drop feed building for 20-30 years

Oh no will say politicians.

Why is there a housing problem?

Same politicians who are landlords

Good news!

After 27 years the next stage at Greenwich Millennium Village is approaching completion.

Might even make 35 years completion of private developers building at a crawl since taxpayers paid to clean up the land circa 1997-99

Much vacant land beside the Thames. Approved and due to commence many years ago. Nothing has happened. Another successful GLA joint partnership

Not unusual for Peabody across south Thamesmead and Abbey Wood whatsoever
murkydepths.bsky.social
About 200 metres from Abbey Wood station with Liz line, Southeastern Metro and Thameslink.

Peabody evicted shopowners and residents here, knocked buildings down, put up hoardings and now don't plan to build until the late 2030s here.

Thankfully no shortage of affordable homes in London

The arrival of the Liz line at Abbey Wood should have produced much new building nearby.

However many sites remain vacant just a short walk away. Most in Peabody hands for 11 years but not all. Sites like the former car wash long had planning permission.

a spokesman for BrewDog said 'this is the one thing we didn't want to happen'
an excerpt from the National article reading 'the National reported in April this year that in a bid to help keep tree saplings alive by keeping deer out BrewDog erected a perimeter fence, but instead actually trapped the animals inside'

MetroLink, Ireland’s first #metro, has received planning approval. The 19km line will run from Swords to the city via #Dublin Airport. Backed by €2bn, it will transform public #transport, cut commute times, and boost housing and connectivity in Dublin.
www.gov.ie/en/departmen...
Map of the planned MetroLink route from Swords to Charlemont in Dublin. The route includes 15 stations: Estuary (with Park & Ride), Seatown, Swords Central, Fosterstown, Dublin Airport, Dardistown, Northwood, Ballymun, Collins Avenue, Griffith Park, Glasnevin, Mater, O’Connell Street, Tara, St Stephen’s Green, and Charlemont. The line features different infrastructure types such as tunnels, surface tracks, and bridges. MetroLink interchanges with existing transport services: Commuter Rail, DART, LUAS Green Line, and LUAS Red Line. Key interchanges are at Glasnevin (Commuter Rail), O'Connell Street (LUAS Green and Red Lines), Tara (DART), St Stephen’s Green and Charlemont (LUAS Green Line).

Remarkably the station and masts at Brookmans Park have been broadcasting continuously for nearly a century. They pioneered global advances in mass media communication and were the site of the first public transmission of simultaneous sound and vision in the world, in 1930.

Photo 1 was the site of homes and shops. Peabody knocked them down. Phase 7 of masterplan. No expected build until late 2030s.

Other photos are Harrow Manorway (phase 3). Homes demolished about 7 years ago. Nothing imminent.

Car wash site. Two planning approvals.

And Cross Quarter 2. No plans
murkydepths.bsky.social
It's now 16 years since the Liz line approved.

More than three years since it opened.

All sites shown above are walkable to the station. Some just 200 metres away.

And some pictured will remain vacant until the late 2030s during a housing shortage.

There was:

South Thamesmead's Southmere phase two
Lombard Square
Plumstead college and housing
Woolwich student block plus phase two next door now underway
Ropeyards
Morris Walk rebuild
Charlton block behind former pub
GMV's next phase
Peninsula towers

Actually that's nine.
murkydepths.bsky.social
Passed about seven development sites on the 472. On the left is the rebuilt Morris Walk estate. This section has seen total homes doubled, and it looks like the first residents are now moving in.

Not the best station roof but a glorious one all the same
