Federal Employees (firefighters, air traffic control, 🧊...) are all working for free right now. In past shutdowns everyone got back pay the moment the shutdown ended. If I were still a federal employee I'm not sure I'd count on that this time...

For the record, those in power will say that Wildland firefighting won't be affected by a government shutdown.

As a former Wildland fire guy who went through a few government shutdowns, I can assure you that is absolute bullshit.

Rx fire smoke is annoying, but doesn't last long and it helps prevent super fires that smoke us in for months and sterilize the soil preventing regrowth.
