This is what the degradation of international law looks like

From Israel’s genocide in Gaza, to Trump, and now Britain’s PM, a former human rights lawyer trying, to undermine these protections.

Let’s not act surprised when dictators follow the same playbook

"UK #Muslims are asking a fundamental question: where do we go from here?

The answer lies not in doubling down on outdated alliances, nor in waiting for others to make room for us. It lies in something more urgent and more honest: forging our own political path — one rooted in moral pragmatism"

Gaza has exposed the bankruptcy of our political leaders.

For 25 years, British Muslim have been tied to the left, only on their terms. In my new piece for EA WorldView, I argue the next 25 years must chart a new course, rooted in moral pragmatism:

The state of British media is telling: more outrage over a protest group and an ill-advised chant at a music festival than over the killing of tens of thousands in Gaza.

Genocide is unfolding, but the real scandal, apparently, is those who are shouting too loudly about it.

STATEMENT: MCB Slams Muted Silence on Genocide While Outrage Mounts Over Protest

By ignoring the concerns raised by UN experts, the government is choosing to silence protestors rather than address the root causes of the genocide being carried out by Israeli forces.

MCB Slams Muted Silence on Genocide While Outrage Mounts Over Protest

“Whilst we consistently advocate for protest to remain within the law, the government’s decision to proscribe Palestine Action is deeply alarming and sets a dangerous precedent for civil liberties in the UK.
Once again, we are witnessing disproportionate crackdowns on those raising their voices against the UK’s complicity in the ongoing genocide in Gaza while the government takes no real steps to end the slaughter or ensure meaningful humanitarian aid reaches Palestinians.
Criticism of the IDF, a military occupation force engaged in mass violence, is being cynically reframed as antisemitism to shut down legitimate dissent. Meanwhile, the IDF continues to commit war crimes with impunity.”

Child Sexual Exploitation is a vile crime and those perpetrators must be punished.
muslimcouncil.bsky.social
We welcome the Prime Minister’s Announcement of a statutory inquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation - and stand firmly with the victims of these abhorrent crimes.

Exploiting these horrific crimes to push bigotry derails real justice.

A public statement from the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) titled “MCB Welcomes CSE Inquiry, Urges Evidence-Led Approach Over Scapegoating.” The statement supports the UK Prime Minister's announcement of a statutory inquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE), emphasizing the need for a broad, evidence-based investigation rather than a narrow focus on group-based exploitation, which comprises only 3.5% of cases. The message highlights the MCB’s solidarity with victims, rejects scapegoating of minority communities, and calls for unity and fair policymaking. The statement is attributed to Dr. Wajid Akhter, Secretary General, and dated Tuesday 17th June 2025. The design features white and gold text on a maroon background, with the MCB logo at the top.

With Israel's actions, we are witnessing the collapse of the rules-based order and international law. This flies in the face of everything Britain claims to stand for. What we’re seeing sends a clear message to every dictator: act as you wish, there will be no consequences.

The Muslim Council of Britain condemns in the strongest possible terms Israel’s latest military strikes on Tehran, which have seen residential areas engulfed in flames.

It is time for Britain to stop turning a blind eye.

Snippet from Press Release, dated 13th June:

Dr Wajid Akhter, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain, said:

“This is the act of a genocidal regime dragging the world toward catastrophic war. Netanyahu, indicted for war crimes, unleashes terror with impunity while civilians burn – and Israel is handed a blank cheque. The UK Government’s silence is complicity. Enough with the double standards. If any other state had committed a fraction of these crimes, sanctions would be immediate. Yet Israel is shielded, indulged, and excused. The international community has failed again and again and history will remember this cowardice. Every delay, every deflection, every refusal to name the aggressor makes us all complicit. Justice demands more than words.”

Horrific news this morning. Thoughts and prayers with all the victims and their families.

We are saddened by the tragic news of the plane crash this morning en route from Ahmedabad to Gatwick, which has been reported to have no survivors. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives. We pray for comfort, strength, and patience for all during this time.

Whilst these sanctions are welcome, more needs to be done to hold those responsible for atrocities in Gaza to account.

🚨 MCB Statement

The MCB welcomes the UK travel ban and asset freeze of far-right Israeli ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich - but after over 55,000 Palestinian deaths, it isn’t enough. We continue to push for further action.
MCB Press Statement Reads: The Muslim Council of Britain cautiously welcomes this overdue travel ban and assets frozen of Israeli far-right ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich over their culpability in Gaza. Although it arrives in the wake of immense suffering and loss of life, where over 55,000 Palestinians have been killed. We must acknowledge that those responsible for such atrocities must face justice, including those who enabled and perpetuated such horrors. While this step is a beginning, it is not enough. The MCB will carry on calling and campaigning for Britain to recognise Palestine as a sovereign, independent state, demand an immediate end to the mass killing of civilians, ensure the safe return of all hostages on both sides, facilitate the immediate and unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and cease all arms exports and military support to the Israeli government."

Much has been made by bad faith actors trying to paint this week’s Qur’an burning conviction as a blasphemy law in disguise. It wasn’t.

Here’s my latest, outlining the Muslim Council of Britain's position and what the judgement was really about.

Britain should be a safe haven for those fleeing war and persecution—no matter where they come from. We rightfully welcome Ukrainians. It’s time we do the same for Palestinians fleeing genocide in Gaza. #RefugeesWelcome
musdabbagh.bsky.social
Palestinians in Gaza are facing relentless bombardment, starvation, and mass displacement. If a Ukrainian family deserves safety, why doesn’t a Palestinian one? Why does political outrage only come when a Gazan family finds refuge?
musdabbagh.bsky.social
When Russia invaded Ukraine, Britain rightly opened its borders, offering homes and protection. No one asked if every Ukrainian was personally targeted—they were fleeing war. So why is it different for Palestinians fleeing Israel’s genocide in Gaza?
musdabbagh.bsky.social
Ukrainians fleeing war are welcomed with open arms. Palestinians fleeing genocide in Gaza face closed doors. And when a single family is finally granted safety, politicians cry outrage. Why the double standard? 🧵

Prevent has failed, and needs to be abolished.

Its review is a chance to replace a discriminatory, ineffective system with one that builds trust, safeguards communities, and does not treat Muslims as suspects. My take for Middle East Eye

As news of a ceasefire and deal emerges, let us remember: this is just the first step towards accountability. True justice will only be achieved when those responsible for the genocide in Gaza are held accountable for their crimes.

David Miller is no ally of Muslims and is driven by arrogance and ego.

Throwing Islamophobic accusations of supporting ISIS at Muslims who disagree with him is disgraceful. Opposing imperialism and Zionism means nothing if you excuse Russian and Iranian oppression. He’s a hypocrite, not an ally.
