Trump completely bypassing the very first part of the constitution in multiple ways - tariffs, company kickbacks, donations, and now this - is such an insane indictment of how weak the institutions are.

By and large, I think our constitution is very good and a lot of the problems we have right now would be solved by simply following what’s written therein. But I think we should accept that it’s largely a dead letter and we may need to conduct the fight on that terrain.

100%. you don’t sign up with the declining 80 year old because you think it’s the start of an 1000 year trump monarchy. You sign up because it’s optimal in the near term and you don’t anticipate any consequences when the ride stops.

Sure. I think it reasonably generates more attention when Trump says “I hate you and will screw you over,” you vote for him anyway, and then you complain about the incredibly foreseeable outcome.

I think it’s good to engage these con lawyers with legal arguments, but what they’re actually saying is “I support a move to a lawless authoritarian state and making these inane arguments gets me ahead in that context.”

I can’t imagine taking a trip out of country at this point. The shame and stink from what we’ve done - it doesn’t deserve to come off.
