for me, it illustrates what preregistration could do if done right – if people cheat / make vague preregistrations, there will hardly be any benefit... we clearly need a system in which studies are checked against their preregistrations

Everyone wants to blame the content: misinformation, bots, polarisation. That mistakes catalysts and symptoms for the underlying causes. The crisis isn’t bad information, it's that the very information infrastructure we relied on to create a shared understand of the world had changed completely.

ppl start to be deterred after they update their beliefs regarding the probability they will be checked. it used to be virtually zero, now the chances are higher, but ppl (correctly) feel the risk is still pretty low and act accordingly (esp. when we consider the very low expected punishment...)
