When I first came out as nonbinary I thought that to have my gender be seen as valid, I needed to be androgynous. You don’t owe anyone androgyny. My gender doesn’t vanish under my makeup. This ethereal core of my identity exists to serve me and will continue to do so no matter who else sees it.
