Like so many members of our military, serving this country changed my life. The Navy gave me opportunities I wouldn't dream of and taught me lessons I'll never forget. I'm grateful for everything our nation has given me, and I'll always do everything I can to give back to it.

ICYMI: Judge Michael Luttig spoke powerfully at last month’s Summit about the Supreme Court.

“The only power it has, and the only power it has to wield on behalf of the American people, is the power of its persuasion.”

Today, that principle matters more than ever.

Something I wish got challenged more often in this “men in crisis” discourse is the blithe assumption (or sometimes outright assertion!) that everyone’s boss is a woman now. “Women now dominate white collar work and corporate management roles.” No they don’t. That just isn’t true.

The top three things Jesus was on about were feeding the hungry, healing the sick, and welcoming the stranger. Rich men have convinced so-called Christians to starve the hungry, gut health care, and deport the stranger to enrich themselves. It’s astoundingly anti-Christ.

If SNAP benefits don’t go out November 1, it’s not because of the shutdown or because SNAP ran out of money.

It’s because the Trump admin is illegally refusing to use the money in the SNAP contingency fund.

The same admin that enacted the largest cuts to SNAP in history.

Cost to fund SNAP and keep 42 million people from starving:

$100 billion

Cost of lost revenue due to tax cuts for the richest Americans in the top 1%:

$100 billion

One is decried as "welfare." One is not.

Why?

Today's "One First" explains why Stephen Miller is wrong that ICE officers have "federal immunity" from prosecution for all actions they take in their official duties, and that anyone attempting to prosecute them is committing a felony.

Supremacy Clause immunity is a thing, but it's *not* absolute:
186. When Can States Prosecute Federal Officers?
Stephen Miller claims that ICE officers have "immunity" for anything they do while enforcing immigration law. Even as an argument about *state* criminal prosecutions, that claim is overstated at best.

The frame that says Democrats care about Americans, so when the Trump administration deliberately hurts millions of Americans that puts pressure on Democrats to make unrelated political concessions and does not put pressure on the Republicans who control every branch of the government, is so warped.
“.. There is between $5 billion and $6 billion currently in that fund ..

“.. On Friday, however, USDA released guidance saying it won’t use those funds .. a move that appears designed to maximize the pressure on Senate Democrats ..”
