We are living in a chaotic political time. It will not be calm soon. To allies who want an inclusive, just America: We need you in the months to come, not just now. Be confident in what you know. Remember to take care of your mental health. Take a day off. Breathe. Stretch. Think. Rebuild. Return.

"Antifa has been around in various iterations for almost 100 years in some instances, going back to the Weimar Republic in Germany."

From shots of Trump's bruised hand and his severely swollen ankles to Bondi's script from yesterday's Senate appearance, photographers have been invaluable in capturing small, but telling details about this hideous administration.

Reuters photographer Jonathan Ernst noticed that Bondi flipped open a file during the Senate hearing and he zoomed in.

Inside were her crib notes for attacking the senators.

The GOP now practicing Cliff's Notes Fascism

In other words, under oath Bondi was purely a performance.

I have always believed that Bari Weiss’s mission was to convince people with college degrees that Democrats are terrible, rich people are worth the cost, and that Emperor Nero is much better than the alternatives. She has no journalistic ethics, only journalistic techniques.

The U.S. Treasury shared a proposal to mint $1 Trump coins to mark America’s 250th anniversary.

But U.S. code says only deceased individuals may appear on U.S. currency, a tradition dating back to efforts to break from monarchical rule. https://wapo.st/4pWsyL3

13-yo son, back from Church school: My teacher was wrong about the age of the universe!
Me: Hoo-boy
Son: He said it was 400 billion years old.
Me: (whew) Oh! Well sure, it's like 13.7b but he's fine
Son: What?
Me: My problem is w/Christians who think the # is 10,000. But 400B is the right direction!

In July, we documented nearly 50 incidents of immigration officers shattering car windows to make arrests — a tactic experts say was rarely used before Trump took office.

ICE claims its officers use a “minimum amount of force.”

You can judge for yourself.

I have admired you and your expertise for a long time. Seems like every expert in the history of government thinks this is a new American version of fascism. I also do. Yet you keep resisting the word. Not sure what Emperor Nero needs to do to tic whatever checkboxes are left in your mind. Let's see

"a tradition"???

It's literally the law.

This matters because the law is not self-executing. If we treat it as non-binding, its constraints grow even looser.

This is the key question — and in a lot of ways, this question is *a big reason why Bluesky exists*. Twitter wanted to get out of the business of making calls on both moderation (what you can say) and algorithm (what gets promoted). This was a key motivation for making “an open protocol”…

will this healthy discourse project change anything about allowing journalists writing articles calling for trans people to be erased, but banning palestinians in need of aid, trans people and even just people who make somewhat crude jokes

We’re system architects at core. We built a decentralized network so you could run your own moderation, but beyond that our upcoming healthy discourse project is taking some swings at the interaction model that drives these dynamics on Bluesky. Excited to start seeing it in action.

Really bad interview with @warren.senate.gov about the shutdown on @npr.org this a.m. Nothing but Republican talking points and gaming out the politics. Warren kept trying to point out that health care for actual human beings is what's at stake. Hey, NPR: You're now 100% independent. Act like it.
