Not prosecuting every last person involved in January 6th, from Trump to his co-conspirators in Congress, has cost us dearly as a nation.

I rode this yesterday, to get to an event over there and am very used to just going down the bike lane. The “detour” is *insane* — you have to dive off and on the curb in front of car traffic, the road is full of pothole landmines a foot deep, and it’s entirely dependent on human flaggers.

As the East River Greenway is under construction for coastal resiliency work, cyclists on the East Side need a detour that actually gives them safe passage instead of the mess DOT suggests.
Eyes on the Street: DOT's Greenway 'Detour' is Simply Unsafe for Cyclists - Streetsblog New York City
The greenway alongside the FDR Drive is closed for important resiliency work. But the city's detour is unsafe and unacceptable.

Q: Do you agree that the mayor of Chicago and governor of Illinois should be in prison?

MIKE JOHNSON: Should they be in prison? I'm not the attorney general. I'm not following the day to day on that

This very very very bad. I cannot stress this enough. I said that they crossed the Rubicon with arresting Ras Baraka several months ago. This is very bad and portends more bad things for regular people.

Let me emphasize once again that if you’re inclined toward “no deal is possible with these guys” then trying to make a reasonable deal and getting this reaction demonstrates that far better than just asserting it and refusing to try would have.

Memes serve as a tool of dark participation and are used purposefully “to disrupt, undermine, attack, resist or reappropriate discursive positions pertaining to public affairs narratives in the news” (Peters & Allan, 2021, pp. 2–3)

if blue state governors and mayors aren't already thinking about the reliability of various police forces nominally under their control, they should start immediately

It is an inexcusable omission, and editorial malpractice, for Reuters to omit mention that the President doing this kind of thing on a media platform he owns & has not divested is unprecedented, likely illegal and an ethical violation. The message itself is unprecedented and illegal. Why not say so?

NEW: Justin Pearson of the "Tennessee 3" is challenging Rep. Steve Cohen.

There's an age dynamic: Cohen is 76, Pearson is 30.

And an ideological one: Cohen left CPC last year + is pro-Israel. Pearson says war in Gaza is a "genocide."

Do you imagine our students are safe with these people?

The corrupting influence of the affiliate links is so complete that these “news” sites usually don’t even editorially link to the *manufacturer’s websites*, even if they provide more information (which they almost always do) or a better price for consumers (which they often do).

Those influencing Trump education policy aren't shy about wanting to eradicate public schools.

Asked what % of kids she imagines should be in public schools, Tiffany Justice -- Moms for Liberty cofounder, now with Heritage Foundation -- told @propublica.org

“I hope zero. I hope to get to zero.”
These Activists Want to Dismantle Public Schools. Now They Run the Education Department.
Under Trump, the Department of Education has been bringing in activists hostile to public schools. It could mean a new era of private and religious schools boosted by tax dollars — and the end of publ...

Each website - each social media system - has to have a view of what sort of content they want and what they don't want.

Or, to put this in terms techbros understand: There is no such thing as viewpoint-neutral moderation.

Here’s the thing about social media moderation: you need to have both a provision and a practice of keeping people off your platform even if they don’t break any of your rules but are simply just a fucking asshole. And of course off-platform behavior is a legitimate reason.

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11
